A younger counterpart to the YBAs, M.I.A. is a medley of confidence, controversy and 21st century multi-media sensibilities, Ms Arulpragasam has always known how to get people talking – ‘Bad Girls’ isn’t any different.

Another collabo with director Romain Gavras, the video features middle eastern racing boys and girls performing car tricks and Hip-Hop dance routines in traditional dress. Visually stunning, from the tricks, styling and lighting to the dope x-ray style car.

Any artist that manages to get coverage from both The Wall Street Journal and Pitchfork on what they are about to do next is doing something right. M.I.A. understands the ‘what’s’ and ‘why’s’ of cultural relevance to markets, the media and the perception of being an innovative multi-media ‘artist’ and plays the right tune to get everyone moving. That’s not to say there isn’t artistry to what she does, but like Young British Artists before, M.I.A. is in the business of selling her vision.

Sam’s latest work for Brownswood Records new artist, Gang Colours showcases his penchant for found Super 8 footage which he has used spliced with some original film to give a warm and familiar feeling.

Moonrise Kingdom looks set to deliver classic Wes Anderson. The hallmarks of Anderson’s work are as recognisable as they are hard to pin down. Few people celebrate the strange absurdities of human relationships like Wes, who looks to be in fine abstractive form. Keep your eyes peeled for a release date.

Director, photographer and actor Aaron Ruell takes photographs like a man who directs film. He was responsible for the promotional photography and opening title sequences for the 2004 award winning cult movie Napoleon Dynamite, which he also starred in.

Ruell manages to capture a real sense of theatre and character; even within the confines of the seemingly bog standard portrait. Skill sets which are particularly handy if you’re an independent film maker trying to sell in your ideas to potential investors about films you might have in the pipeline.

Watching this film shot on the new iPhone 4 makes me wanna get an upgrade, now. The footage looks amazing with a lovely depth of field. I have a feeling that we’re going to see a lot of ‘iMovies’ coming our way soon.

Interesting video from Greyskale Multimedia featuring American footballer Giavanni Ruffin. I’d not heard of either Greyskale or Mr Ruffin but his story is a particularly interesting one.

Ruffin is a highly touted running back out of East Carolina University who went undrafted in this spring’s NFL draft. Rather than be discouraged when his name failed to show up on the NFL draft board, Ruffin has used the experience as added motivation in achieving his goal, with this video no doubt acting as a shop window to any perspective NFL teams.

Good sense makes sense, and this video is 5mins 50seconds of wisdom that permeates any field of interest because the message is simple: the secret to success is that there really is no secret.

Influenced by the likes of Shane Meadows this video is set to attract a lot of attention with an exciting twist.

The shoot will be hard work but a lot of fun and although unpaid, the selected actors will be well looked after, fed and watered throughout the day and will finish with some fantastic showreel material as well as getting the opportunity to work with an innovative Director Craig Murray.

Stones Throw are marketing geniuses. The Stones Throw Video Contest which launched back in April and ends today is proof of that.

Such is the nature of genius that it attracts, well, genius. Enter Samuel Craven with a final day entry that’s already got the attention of Mr Perkins himself.

Sam’s video for Flowers provides all the essential ingredients for a summer video: it’s beautiful, calming and uplifting and works in perfect harmony with the track. Sure I’m biased but it deserves your vote, or at least a play or two.

Found during an endless trawl through Sam’s local flea market, the footage is unbelievably untouched and unedited. And that’s where the magic lies.

Nick Mcqueen and Josh Walsh, two recent graduate from Camberwell College of Arts developed their own DIY camera track and dolly. Using skateboard wheels, mdf and a heap of planning, they manage to make a super sexy piece of grip equipment.

Simply put, this is one of the strongest, most poignant music videos you’ll ever watch.

In fact to call it just a music video does it a disservice, but if you want something to do with 9mins 40seconds of your time, you could do no better than watching this.

Carpe diem.

The average coming-of-age film is generally thwart with drama at every turn and a look-at-me-look-at-me element that rarely deserve any attention at all.

So if you come across a largely slept on 2002 film full of character, subtlety and previously untapped performing talent, then you’ll have no doubt discovered what it was like Raising Victor Vargas.

Picture the swanky but slightly chaotic scene. It’s the screenwriters strike of 2007. There’s no new product and no scriptwriters to make it. What to do? Dip into the archives of course, for a brand that was crying out for a remake.

So what next when you need the hard cash of major investors in order to bring the project to life? Well if you’ve got the iconic visual references of the original Tron to drawn on, you for-go the script and cut straight to the trailer.

Post production juggernauts Digital Domain did the honours, which in turn brought on the necessary brands and distributors to make things happen. Most tellingly from a marketing perspective was the simultaneous development of a Tron Legacy computer game, which if modern marketing trends count for anything, will probably outstrip the ridiculous revenue already promised by the film itself.

Not every brand will be able to try this at home, but it won’t be the last time we see this potential means of production.

Three rolling street-side billboard ads with three tenuous uses of the Saint Georges flag can only mean one thing; it’s World Cup silly season.

All the things you need to prepare you for a summer of sporting activity, you know – chocolate bars, beer, fizzy drinks – have provided us with all the ad nauseum we need for the coming summer months.

And there’s the new spot from Nike. In truth you don’t need them either, but as usual they claim a credible position with an irrefutable life message.

The ads not bad either.

If you’ve been watching the news recently or have even a passing interest in volcanoes, then you’ll have at least heard about Mount Eyjafjallajökull.

No we can’t pronounce it, yes it’s kept Suzy from seeing her beloved little Paul for three whole days.

In truth this eruption has caused no end of disruption to the world of aviation, but if we step back from our travel itineraries for a moment, Mount Eyjafjallajökull becomes a stark reminder of the planets relative infancy as well as its amazing beauty.

Sean Stiegemeier certainly saw it, and he spent four days capturing it. He used a Canon 5d mkII camera, which I want, and music from Jónsi, which I like.

I was lamenting the lack of quality April Fools jokes today when an article about Unicorns on the telebox came along, and had our MD Steph done up a kipper.

Self deprecating humour doesn’t normally come high on the young alpha males’ CV, but that could be about to change. Let me introduce you to Shadrack and the Mandem, courtesy of Clickreplay.tv

It’s high time that ‘urban’ male posturing got a full satirical send-up and Shadrack’s series of video treats send the whole culture up through the roof. Coupled with a twitter campaign that takes the concept onto new 140 letter highs and what you’ve got is comedy for a new age with a level of wisdom and insight that is ageless.

In their own words, Clickreplay.tv want to ‘simply be the back bone of, online home grown UK comedy entertainment.’ And anything is possible, as this is what I call true cultural ownership of the good, the bad, the ugly & the absolutely hilarious.

My friend Jason pointed me in the direction of this masterful video by director and visual effects guru Sam O’Hare.

The way Sam plays with the sense of scale and movement is truly a joy to behold, as it makes for one utterly enchanting piece of work.
