London based womenswear newcomer Sindiso Khumalo exemplifies the super savvy fashion brands of the future. The South African born designer is busy creating a value supply chain model for the self-titled Sindiso Khumalo luxury textiles and fashion label.
Not content to set up just another label, Sindiso partnered with an NGO in Durban; collaborating with local crafts people to produce graphic textiles for her collection – a collection built on the belief that “fashion can become an empowering agent by creating positive economic activities in otherwise marginalized parts of the world.”
Originally an architecture graduate, Sindiso went on to work with David Adjaye in London before going on to study an MA Design for Textile Futures at Central St Martins College of Art and Design.
Since graduating from St Martin’s in 2012 and setting up her label, Sindiso has also won the Elle Magazine (South Africa) Rising Star Competition for her debut SS13 collection, as well as being nominated for ‘Most Beautiful Object in South Africa’ by the Design Indaba Cape Town.
Sindiso Khumalo’s Autumn / Winter 2013/14 collection looks like being amongst the most coveted pieces in every self-respecting pattern lovers’ wardrobe this winter.
